Nintendo Direct September 2026: Every Switch 2 Announcement, Release Date & More

I think we knew we were in for a pretty big Nintendo Direct when Monster Hunter Wilds opened the show. With Nintendo promising around 45 minutes of upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 games, there was plenty of room for surprises, but even then, I wasn’t expecting quite this much. From huge third-party releases and long-awaited remasters to brand-new games, Nintendo Switch Online additions and a rather exciting new Kirby adventure, this Direct had something for almost everyone.

Monster Hunter Wilds

Right out of the gate, Monster Hunter Wilds arrived on screen, immediately giving us a pretty good indication of where this Direct was heading. The Nintendo Switch 2 version launches on December 4, 2026, and the footage shown looked surprisingly impressive. Perhaps most excitingly, the game will support four-player local multiplayer, which could make this an excellent game to experience with friends on the same console. Nintendo also confirmed that the Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance expansion is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027. Not a bad way to start.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation finally gets its Switch 2 spotlight

We also got another look at FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION, the conclusion to Square Enix’s ambitious remake trilogy. The footage shown during the Direct looked incredibly polished, and Switch 2 owners won’t have too much longer to wait. The game launches on April 8, 2027, with pre-orders now available. If you want to jump back into Zack’s story, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII – Reunion is also coming to Switch 2 today.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity gets the Definitive Edition treatment

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity – Definitive Edition is coming exclusively to Nintendo Switch 2 on February 25, 2027. This version includes all previously released DLC, more enemies on screen and a brand-new difficulty option called Calamity Mode. There is also an upgrade path for existing players, alongside save data transfer, making this a particularly nice upgrade for anyone who already owns the original.

Meccha Chameleon launches today

Nintendo then showed off Meccha Chameleon, an indie hide-and-seek phenomenon that looks like it could be an absolute blast with friends. The best part? It’s available on the Nintendo eShop today!

Pokémon Pokopia gets more content

Pokémon Pokopia is getting more content later this year, with the second content pack adding new accessories and ways to customise your character. You’ll be able to give your character things like sunglasses and ribbons, while also hanging out with some new Pokémon. It looks like Nintendo isn’t slowing down with Pokopia anytime soon.

Star Fox gets a free multiplayer update – and Star Fox Adventures returns

The previously announced Star Fox also made an appearance, with Nintendo revealing a substantial free update. The big addition is four-player split-screen multiplayer for the Battle Mode, with players able to take that same group online and compete against other players. But for me, the bigger announcement was Star Fox Adventures is coming to Nintendo Switch Online’s GameCube library today. As someone who has some very fond memories of Star Fox Adventures, I’m excited to jump back into this one.

The Witcher 3 Remastered is looking fantastic

The Witcher 3 Remastered on Switch 2: Everything We Know So Far

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered also got a fresh look, and honestly, it looks fantastic on Switch 2. The remastered version launches on September 29, 2026, bringing one of the most beloved RPGs of the last decade to Nintendo’s latest hardware. Nintendo also confirmed that its new expansion content is coming in 2027.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is coming to Switch 2

This was one of the bigger surprises for me. Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027, and it won’t be arriving alone. The Switch 2 release includes the game’s DLC as part of the Royal Edition, giving Nintendo players the complete experience. Considering the scale of Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, I’m very curious to see how this one runs on Switch 2.

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is almost here

We also got another look at Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, and thankfully, we don’t have much longer to wait. The latest entry in Nintendo’s strategy RPG series launches exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 on September 17, 2026. Nintendo has already shown quite a bit of Fortune’s Weave, but this latest trailer did a good job of reminding us just how close we are to finally getting our hands on it.

Professor Layton returns with a huge collection of puzzles

Professor Layton and the New World of Steam also received another look. Nintendo is promising what could be the biggest collection of puzzles in the series yet, giving fans of the iconic puzzle-solving franchise plenty to look forward to. It launches on December 10, 2026.

Yo-kai Watch is back

After what feels like an eternity, Yo-kai Watch is making another appearance in the West. Yo-kai Watch 2: Haunted Domain was confirmed to be in development, although Nintendo didn’t provide a release date or firther details. Still, just seeing Yo-kai Watch return was enough to get plenty of fans excited.

Pikmin 4 gets a surprisingly substantial Switch 2 upgrade

Pikmin 4: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dondori Academy is coming on November 12, 2026. The upgrade adds voice commands for Oatchi using the Switch 2’s built-in microphone, alongside a brand-new mode called Dondori Academy. This new mode introduces additional challenges, including time-attack-style treasure hunts, with exams taking place on certain days and a leaderboard for players who want to compete for the best times. Nintendo is also planning to release 72 new stages over time, making this sound like considerably more than a simple visual upgrade. Pre-orders are available now.

Bloober Team’s mysterious Onyx finally emerges

One of the stranger announcements of the Direct was Onyx: The Dark Grip from Bloober Team. It’s a horror adventure with a very unusual concept. The game appears to use point-and-click-style interactions and the Switch 2’s touchscreen, with the actions you perform seemingly appearing supernatural to the game’s protagonist. That means you’ll need to balance what you’re doing with what the character actually believes is happening around him. It’s coming exclusively to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 gets a Switch 2 Edition

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is also receiving the Switch 2 treatment. The new edition adds a mode called Heroes Vault, which appears to be an endless battle mode viewed from a top-down perspective. From what was shown, it has a surprisingly Vampire Survivors-like feel to it. A new hero called Shimmer is also joining the adventure. The Switch 2 Edition launches on December 3, 2026.

The creators of Overcooked bring us Stage Fright

If you’ve ever played Overcooked and thought, “I’d love to see these developers make something completely different,” Stage Fright might be worth keeping an eye on. Created by the team behind Overcooked, Stage Fright is a co-operative adventure inspired by escape rooms. The story follows characters trapped across different dimensions, with the game showing events from different character perspectives. It looks like a really fun co-op experience, and it’s coming in 2027.

Disney Dreamlight Valley lets you become a mermaid

Disney Dreamlight Valley: The Keepsea Sea was also shown, with the upcoming content allowing players to embrace their inner mermaid. The new paid content is scheduled for November 2026.

Ondeh Ondeh Kaya’s Tasty Tale

Ondeh Ondeh Kaya’s Tasty Tale was another new game shown during the presentation. From the trailer, it looks like a colourful combination of rhythm and building gameplay, and it’s currently scheduled for 2027.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight continues to look like a wonderfully chaotic take on the Caped Crusader. The game launches on September 18, 2026, and if the trailer is anything to go by, we’re in for plenty of ridiculous LEGO humour alongside the Batman action.

New Kirby Air Riders amiibo

Nintendo also showed off new amiibo for Kirby Air Riders, including Sword Kirby and Noir Dedede. A new update and event are also on the way, with more information promised in the future.

Cairn looks like one to watch

One of my personal surprises of the Direct was Cairn. It’s a climbing adventure focused on scaling a massive mountain, carefully planning your route and managing your resources along the way. It looks really unique, and I’m very interested to see how it plays on Switch 2. The game is coming in early 2027, but thankfully, you don’t need to wait that long to try it. A free demo is available today.

Resident Evil 2, 3 and 4 are coming to Switch 2

Capcom is bringing three modern Resident Evil remakes to Nintendo Switch 2. Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4 will all be available digitally on October 16, 2026, with physical editions following next year. That’s an awful lot of Resident Evil arriving on Switch 2.

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis announced

A new Tomb Raider adventure was also revealed. Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis launches on Nintendo Switch 2 on February 12, 2027. Based on what we saw, this looks like another big adventure for Lara Croft and another interesting addition to the Switch 2 library.

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort looks fantastic

I wasn’t expecting Nintendo Switch Sports Resort to be one of the games I came away most excited about, but here we are. The game takes us back to Wuhu Island, but this time we can actually explore the island freely and search for collectibles. There’s also a new offline Crown Mode, which lets players climb the ranks across the various sports, alongside new customisation options. Nintendo Switch Sports Resort launches exclusively on Switch 2 on October 22, 2026, with 12 sports included. Honestly, this looks like it could be one of the best entries in the series.

Metroid Ravenous is the big new Metroid surprise

And then Nintendo dropped Metroid Ravenous. This new 2D Metroid adventure looks incredibly energetic, combining side-scrolling exploration with a much more aggressive combat system. Samus can now perform timing-based counters and combos, while another major new mechanic allows her to absorb energy from enemies. As the trailer put it: it’s eat or be eaten. The game looks visually impressive, too, with a much more cinematic presentation than you might expect from a 2D Metroid. Metroid Ravenous launches exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 on January 28, 2027, with new amiibo also on the way.

Mario Kart World gets a free update

Mario Kart World is getting another free update, and this one is a pretty fun callback to Nintendo history. Ten courses inspired by the original Super Mario Kart on SNES are being added to the game’s Race Mode. The update also adds two new Knockout Tour routes and new events including Propeller Rally and Turnip Rally. It’s available today.

Mega Man: Dual Override adds Proto Man

Mega Man: Dual Override also received a new trailer, revealing that Proto Man will be playable. The game is coming to both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027, with new Mega Man and Proto Man amiibo also planned for launch.

Eternal Anima looks gorgeous

Eternal Anima was another game that immediately caught my attention. This top-down classic-style JRPG features turn-based combat, time travel and the ability to acquire the abilities of heroes from the past. It looks absolutely gorgeous and is scheduled to launch on March 4, 2027.

And then came the rapid-fire announcements

Nintendo had a lot more to show, so things started moving very quickly. Here’s the rapid-fire rundown:

Danganronpa 2×2 – coming to Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 on January 14, 2027, with a new Slayhem Mode.
Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves – coming to Switch 2 digitally on October 22, with a physical release in 2027.
Metal Slug Ultimate Collection – includes Metal Slug 1–6, X, 7 and Advance, with online co-op, coming to Switch and Switch 2 in 2027.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Tag Force GX – coming to Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.
Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United – a full remake with new visuals and voice acting, coming February 16, 2027.
Far Cry 3 and Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon – coming in 2027.
House Flipper 2 – October 16.
Sonic & PICO PARK – November 12.
DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS: The Withered World – December 3.
Hela – December 1.
Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream – December 3.
Stellar Blade – November 5.
The Ascent: Ultimate Edition – December.
It Takes Two – October 15.
Palia – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition – December.
Bluey’s Happy Snaps – October 15.
Hot Wheels Infinite Rush – September 10.
Fading Echo – September 17.
Hell is Us – October 8.
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy – November 5.

And somehow Nintendo still had more.

Persona 4 Revival and Persona 6

Persona 4 Revival was confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2, with the game arriving in May 2027. But Atlus wasn’t finished, the presentation also gave us a tease for Persona 6. There wasn’t much to go on yet, but after years of waiting, simply seeing that name was enough to get people talking.

Kirby closes the Direct

Finally, the announcement that ended the show. A brand-new Kirby game. Kirby and the World Beyond is a new 3D adventure coming exclusively to Nintendo Switch 2 in Spring 2027. The trailer showed a bright, colourful world that looks much larger than the traditional Kirby games we’ve come to expect, and while Nintendo didn’t give us every detail, it certainly looked like the series is about to take another big step forward. I’m not going to lie: I think this could be something special. Nintendo also teased a 35th anniversary celebration for Kirby, so it seems this little pink puffball is going to be having a very big year.

This might be one of the best Nintendo Directs I’ve seen. Coming out of this Direct, I honestly don’t have many complaints. There was something for everyone. We’ve got huge AAA releases like Monster Hunter Wilds, Resident Evil, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. We’ve got long-awaited Nintendo projects like Metroid Ravenous and Kirby and the World Beyond. We’ve got RPGs, horror games, co-op adventures, remasters, indie games and enough ports to keep Switch 2 owners busy for months. I’m just incredibly happy that Star Fox Adventures is back. That’s the sort of announcement that makes these presentations special for me. Yes, I’m excited about seeing huge games like Monster Hunter Wilds running on Switch 2, but being able to boot up Star Fox Adventures again through Nintendo Switch Online is the kind of nostalgic surprise I wasn’t expecting. Then you’ve got games like Cairn, Eternal Anima, Stage Fright and Onyx: The Dark Grip that came out of nowhere and immediately landed on my radar. Nintendo Switch 2 owners certainly aren’t going to be short of games anytime soon.
