10 Franchises Nintendo Should Smash the Box Office with Next

With the Super Mario Bros movie dominating the box office on Endgame and Avatar levels, it seems almost certain Nintendo will return to the big screens. Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma, has also expressed interest in seeing The Legend of Zelda hit the silver screen. All this buzz has got me thinking, what other Franchises would translate well into a movie or TV show? Let’s take a look below…

Animal Crossing – TV Series

Don’t click that back button! Hear me out… A TV series of Animal Crossing in the vein of the cult Aussie classic “Bluey” would make a great TV show for young and old. The show could revolve around Tom Nook and Isabelle helping certain villager animals out with a variety of problems.

Chance of it happening? – Likely

Fire Emblem – TV Series

How I long to see this underrated series get some love. Imagine a Game of Thrones-type epic that doesn’t internally combust in the final season. The rich lore, interesting characters, and time-traveling conflict could see the series go in many different interesting directions. It could even follow the Witcher’s time jump following Chrom in the early days before flash-forwarding to the more recent Fire Emblem: Engage storylines. Chances of it happening would be slim to none in favour of much larger franchises but one can hope.

Chance of it happening? – Slim

F-Zero X – Movie

If I’m being honest, I would just love to see a sequel or I would even settle for the Gamecube version to be made available on Switch. F-Zero would translate well into a feature-length film following Captain Falcon as he infiltrates the race circuit for justice. Thinkn Fast and Furious, only less family and more Falcon!

Chance of it happening? – Almost Zero

Pikmin – Movie

A movie following Captain Olimar working alongside his newfound Pikmin friends while he tries to repair his spaceship has all the makings of a winner. I feel like this could be something similar to Pixar’s “Wall-E,” telling an emotional story of courage, hope, and weird… toad… thingies.

Chance of it happening? – Slim

Advance Wars – Movie

Following the ongoing conflict with the Black Hoel army, Advance Wars could make a solid foundation for an action movie similar to the recent GI Joe movies (Only hopefully a bit better.) It could follow Andy and co in a much larger conflict as they work towards liberating towns and moving towards peace.

Chance of it happening? – Slim

Kid Icarus – Movie

Kid Icarus was absolute fire and I’ll die on that hill. The 3DS version exploded onto our screens with tight light rail shooting elements and on foot sections that were AMAZING. We haven’t seen Kid Icarus in a while with the exception of Smash Brothers, but one can hope Nintendo shows some love to this franchise and what better way to show love than to make an epic “Wrath of the Titans” style movie where Kid Icarus journeys to save the Goddess Palutena?

Chance of it happening? – Slim.

Donkey Kong – Movie

I mean, it’s almost guaranteed to happen since DK was featured so heavily in the Mario Bros Movie. Keep the voice actors who did a greta job and show us DK, Diddy, Cranky, and Dixie teaming up to defeat King K-Rool to recover the Banana horde. You know what to do Nintendo! Make it happen!

Chance of it happening? – Highly Likely

Metroid – Movie Trilogy (and then tease a 4th one but never deliver…)

Samus Aran is one badass bounty hunter, and a movie showing her rise to being the amazing warrior she is would be incredible. Follow it up with some sequels which show her battling Space Pirates, Metroids, and Ridley, and you’ve got yourself a Star Wars style epic destined to amass a huge following!

Chance of it happening? – Fair

The Legend of Zelda – Movie

Please be Ocarina of Time… Please be Ocarina of Time… Please be Ocarina of Time…

Chance of it happening? – Highly Likely.

Luigis Mansion

This simply has to happen. Bring back Charlie Day as Luigi, splash in some Chris Pratt for Mario and give us a sequel to the Mario Brothers Movie focused on Luigis Mansion. We got a small taste of this in the Mario Movie, only to have our hopes dashed (but not really in a bad way since the movie was amazing) so to see a feature-length Luigis Mansion would be an absolute treat.
