If you’ve just started your adventure in Moonlight Peaks, welcome to the afterlife! While it’s definitely a cozy game, there’s a surprising amount to learn in those first few days. Between running your little vampire farm, getting to know the locals, gathering resources, and figuring out how everything works, it can all feel a little overwhelming at first. The good news is that a few simple tricks can make those early hours so much smoother and save you from making the same mistakes I did. So, with that in mind, here are 10 tips to make your afterlife just a little bit easier. Let’s get into it!
Forage after you’ve run out of energy
One of the easiest mistakes to make in Moonlight Peaks is calling it a day as soon as your energy bar is empty. Instead, spend the rest of the night wandering around the village and surrounding areas collecting flowers, wild plants, and shells. None of these use any energy to gather, so they’re essentially free resources. You can sell them for a little extra money, keep them for crafting, or use them as gifts for the villagers. It turns what would have been wasted time into a productive part of your day, and those little bits of extra income really start to add up during your first season.
Give flowers to everyone you meet
Speaking of flowers, don’t just sell them all. Whenever you bump into a villager, hand them a flower if you have one to spare. Building friendships isn’t just something to do on the side. As you progress through Moonlight Peaks, parts of the story and certain activities become tied to your relationships with the townsfolk. If you’ve been giving out gifts from the very beginning, you’ll already have a head start instead of needing to suddenly grind friendship levels later. Flowers are common, they’re free to collect, and most villagers appreciate the gesture, making them one of the best early-game gifts.
Never finish the day with leftover energy
Energy is one of your most valuable resources, so try to use every last bit of it before heading to bed. If you’ve already watered your crops or completed the jobs you planned for the day, spend the remaining energy chopping down trees, clearing weeds, or breaking rocks around your farm. Even if you don’t need the materials immediately, future-you will be incredibly thankful. Eventually, you’ll want more room for buildings, decorations, or extra crops. Having to stop what you’re doing just to clear dozens of trees and rocks, or cook food to regain enough energy to do it, is far more frustrating than simply making steady progress every day.
Prioritise getting copper
Once you’ve settled into the game, start making regular trips into the mines to gather copper ore. Copper is one of the first major progression materials you’ll need, and upgrading your tools makes almost every daily task faster and less exhausting. Better tools mean fewer swings to chop trees, break rocks, and gather materials, which also saves precious energy. The earlier you begin collecting copper, the sooner you’ll reach those upgrades and the easier the rest of the game becomes.
Upgrade your pickaxe first, then your axe
When it comes time to spend your hard-earned copper, don’t upgrade your tools randomly. Your pickaxe should be your first priority because it lets you collect mining resources more efficiently, which in turn helps you gather even more copper and other valuable materials. It’s an upgrade that speeds up future upgrades and it’s one of the main tools you will need for clearing space for a barn. After that, focus on your axe. Clearing trees becomes significantly quicker, you’ll collect more wood for crafting, and preparing your farm takes far less effort. These two upgrades provide the biggest quality-of-life improvements during the early game.
Grow tomatoes and onions for easy energy recovery
If there’s one recipe worth keeping stocked, it’s Gazpacho. Tomatoes and onions are available throughout every season, making them incredibly reliable crops to grow all year round. Since Gazpacho only requires these ingredients, you’ll always have a quick way to restore your energy without relying on expensive meals or waiting until the next day. Keeping a small patch of tomatoes and onions growing at all times means you’ll rarely find yourself unable to finish what you wanted to accomplish.
Always find a Vampster before heading into the mines (If you can)
Before you head into the mines, look around for one of the vampsters that you can collect, as they need to be returned to the mines anyway. This will save you a lot of double-handling and walking time if you’re already heading that way, and will make your collecting that little bit more efficient!
Surround your beehives with flowers
Beehives are already a nice way to earn extra income, but they’re much more effective when they’re surrounded by flowers. Instead of placing a couple nearby and calling it done, fill every available space around the hive with flowers. Doing this dramatically improves your honey production and gives you much better returns from the same amount of land. It’s one of those easy optimisations that the game doesn’t really emphasise, but once you know it, you’ll never build your apiaries any other way.
Make room for a barn
It’s tempting to fill every available tile with crops early on, but try to think a little further ahead. Animals become an important part of your farm, and that means you’ll eventually need somewhere to build a barn. If your entire farm is packed with crops, fences, and decorations, you’ll end up spending valuable time rearranging everything. As you’re clearing your land, keep one reasonably sized section open so you’re ready when the opportunity arrives. Your future farm layout will come together much more smoothly.
Remember, there’s no wrong way to play
Finally, probably the most important tip of all: don’t rush. Moonlight Peaks is designed to be a cozy game. There aren’t harsh deadlines pushing you forward, and you don’t need to optimise every single day to have a successful farm. Miss a crop? That’s okay. Spend an entire evening decorating instead of making money? That’s okay too. Take your time, chat with the villagers, explore the world, and enjoy the journey. These tips are here to make your afterlife a little easier, not to tell you the “correct” way to play. Sometimes the best part of a cozy game is simply slowing down and enjoying it.
