All the Switch Announcements at Gamescom 2024

Share:

Gamescom is happening right now in Cologne, Germany with some heavy hitters showcasing their latest games. Nintendo isn’t a part of Gamescom and we knew that there would be only a handful of games announced due to Gamescom coming right out and saying there weren’t enough titles being announced on Switch to have a Best Switch game award. That being said, there were still a few great games announced, let’s check them out below…

Floatopia

Floatopia is a humourous and cute post-apocalyptic cozy game where you escape a dark fate to live among the clouds. Its chibi art style is sure to charm cozy fans and the game features farming, building, and fishing, as well as the ability to visit other floating islands packed with mini-games to enjoy. I’m a sucker for cozy games, and I hope that Floatopia does enough to set itself aside from the pack. Let me know your thoughts!

Dave the Diver x Balatro x Potion Craft x Mxmtoon

Dave is good at making friends and there are a bunch of new collaborations coming to Dave the Diver in the form of Mxmtoon, Balatro, and Potion Craft. Both Balatro and Potion Craft are What’s It Like certified exceptional games and it appears that Balatro is fully playable in Dave the Diver! I think collaborations like this are very clever and I love to see it. Looking forward to having another excuse to drop into Dave the Diver again!

King of Meat

King of Meat sees you play in a similar style to Fall Guys with the main difference being you create the dungeons to battle through. It has a real live service vibe and I’m not sure how it will resonate with players. It seems to have all the staples of the Fall Guys formula… out-there skins, humorous animations, and plenty of styles so I’ll hold my reservations until it comes out in the near future.

Sid Meiers Civilization 7

Civilization VII was announced a few months ago and Fireaxis games came out swinging with a showcase featuring Gwendoline Christie from Game of Thrones fame, Sid Meier himself, and gameplay footage. The game footage shown looks incredible, although there was no Switch footage on display. A big change in gameplay is the ability to change Civs with every age, something originally featured in the game “Humankind” and is being met with mixed feedback. I personally think the legacies feature will be a nice change and I’m excited to try it out. The game releases in February so it won’t be too long to see how it all works and if it will win over long-time Civ fans. Meier himself proclaimed that Civ 7 will launch on all platforms on day 1 for the first time in history as well!

Little Nightmares III

The Little Nightmares series has improved with every iteration thus far, and Little Nightmares 3 seems to be no exception. The new trailer shows off the co-op adventure with a foreboding sense of darkness and desolation, as well as hope as you won’t be alone in your adventure. Little Nightmares 3 releases in 2025, and is sure to be a hit with fans of the series.

Nikoderiko: The Magical World

Nikoderiko was initially announced at the Future Games Show and looks to be an interesting mix of Crash Bandicoot and Donkey Kong Country. I think it’s got a great art style and the gameplay looks like a winner. Hopefully, we get to see more of Nikoderiko soon!
