While many gamers settle in tonight to revisit their childhood with Nintendo World Championships, it’s with sad news that someone who contributed to many gamers’ childhoods, Brett Jones, the artist behind Goldeneye & Perfect Dark has passed Away.
David Doak, also of Rareware Goldeneye Era fame took to Twitter to announce the news today.
Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet prince;
And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest. pic.twitter.com/m967axmc1V— David Doak (@drdoak) July 17, 2024
Jones, worked on both Perfect Dark and Goldeneye as a concept artist and modeling rig, helping bring two of the most influential first-person console shooters to life. Jones’s contribution to the video game industry entertained and inspired many gamers, some of who credit him for entering the industry due to his work.
Aside from his work in video games, Jones was also a talented artist painting and illustrating across several mediums and his talent and passion shone through in all his work.
He also worked on several motion pictures, including Fast 6, Pan, and Guardians of the Galaxy.
I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to Brett Jones’ family, friends, and colleagues. I have no doubt his work will live on through the memories of us all.
