Diablo II: Resurrected – Reign of the Warlock Arrives Out of Nowhere

Well, this is not something I expected to wake up to.

Blizzard has just shadow dropped a brand new expansion for Diablo II: Resurrected titled “Reign of the Warlock”, available now for $39.95 AUD standalone or as part of the Diablo II Infernal Edition for $59.95 AUD.

Yes. New Diablo II content. In 2026… For a game that originally launched more than 25 years ago.

Diablo II: Resurrected – Reign of the Warlock

A New Class Steps Into Hell

Reign of the Warlock introduces an entirely new playable class, the Warlock, described as a spellcaster forged from demonic pacts and Hell itself. It promises new builds, brand new items, sets, runewords, and an expanded endgame experience.

Blizzard is also introducing:

  • Dynamic Terror Zones
  • A new ultimate endgame encounter against the Colossal Ancients
  • Modernised quality-of-life upgrades
  • A broader overhaul to endgame systems

The product listing calls it a “transformative DLC,” which is a rather bold statement for a title that many of us thought had already received its definitive edition with Resurrected.

My wife and I grew up playing this game, both sinking countless hours into the same dark world of Tristram, Lut Gholein and the Chaos Sanctuary. Diablo II is woven into our early gaming lives, so seeing new content arrive for it more than two decades later feels surreal. We did hear rumours of something brewing. Most people assumed any talk of “new Diablo content” would point to Diablo IV. Very few expected Blizzard to revisit Diablo II… And yet here we are.

What makes this even stranger is the timing. On the same day, No Man’s Sky drops a massive update of its own. A game once written off has reinvented itself again and again, and now Diablo II joins the conversation with unexpected new life. Reign of the Warlock might not have had the marketing push of a full sequel, but for fans who spent their teenage years chasing loot drops and perfect runewords, this is pretty special.

Now the only question is whether we will master the darkness… or lose another few hundred hours to it.

What a wild day!
