Donkey Kong Country Returns HD Gets a Big Update on both Switch 1 & 2

Share:

Just over a year after its release, Nintendo continues to show love for its first-party titles, bringing fresh ways to enjoy classic experiences. The latest update for Donkey Kong Country Returns HD proves that even beloved games can evolve in exciting ways.

Dixie Kong Joins the Adventure

The most exciting addition? Dixie Kong is now playable, bringing her signature abilities to the game. Similar to Diddy Kong, she can use her ponytail to reach new heights, and in two-player co-op, you can split the pair for some clever teamwork. This addition opens up new strategies and makes revisiting the levels even more fun.

Turbo Attack: A New Challenge Awaits

For those who thought the game was tough already, the new Turbo Attack mode will push your skills even further. Racing against the clock, the game’s mechanics move at almost lightning speed, adding a whole new layer of intensity to Donkey Kong’s platforming adventures.

Switch 2 Enhancements

If you’re playing on the Switch 2, you’ll notice the game looks even better thanks to enhanced resolution, faster load times, and crisp visuals that make every level pop. Nintendo has also added GameShare, making it easier to share the adventure with friends.

A Classic That Still Holds Up

I reviewed Donkey Kong Country Returns HD when it first launched, and it remains one of the best platformers Nintendo has ever released, with our review saying “Donkey Kong is back and better than ever. It’s a perfect follow-up to the outstanding DK Country series on the SNES, and a wonderful opportunity for players who missed it on the Wii or 3DS. Its gameplay is tight and rewarding, with moments of genuine thrill—finally beating a level (especially the infamous Minecart stages) feels amazing. Even years later, this game holds its own against the best platformers, proving that Donkey Kong remains a challenging and charming classic.”

Will you be returning to Donkey Kong Country?
