Don’t Time Travel In Tomodachi Life!
If you’ve been playing Tomodachi Life, there’s a good chance you just want more of it. Players coming from games like Animal Crossing might be tempted to time travel, skipping ahead to see what the future holds for their Miis in Nintendo’s quirky take on life simulation. Unfortunately, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream doesn’t play along. Time travelling can actually punish you, halting progress and leaving your Miis in a bit of a funk. Here’s why it’s best to avoid it.
Why It’s Not Worth It
At a glance, time-travelling sounds like a smart way to get ahead. In reality, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream gives you very little in return. Most systems in the game already move at a steady pace, with shops refreshing daily and Miis regularly asking for help. Rewards come naturally through short check-ins, so there is no real grind to skip. Because of that, time-travelling ends up feeling unnecessary from the start. Like Animal Crossing, this is a game built around real-time play. It is designed for quick visits throughout the day, and time-travelling disrupts that rhythm.
Shops Stop Refreshing
After changing your system clock, shops across the island stop updating for around 24 hours. That means no new items, no fresh stock, and no daily rotations to check in on. Try to change the time again to get around it, and the game simply resets the timer, locking you out all over again.
Mii Needs Freeze Up
Your Miis rely on real-time updates to stay active, and time-travelling disrupts that completely. Hunger won’t refresh properly, which means you cannot feed them as often as you normally would. That also cuts into rewards, since feeding and helping Miis is one of the easiest ways to earn items and progress.
Even Weekly Content Gets Locked
It is not just daily systems that are affected. Weekly offers and rotating content are also tied to the same internal timers. So instead of jumping ahead, you end up pausing multiple parts of the game at once.
Ultimately, progression in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is driven far more by interacting with your Miis and growing your island’s population than it is by waiting on timers. A lot of new content is unlocked as your island fills out, with more Miis leading to more interactions, more conversations, and more chances for things to happen. On top of that, granting Mii wishes is a major driver of progression, helping unlock new buildings, events, and situations as you play. Because of that structure, the best way to move forward is simply to create as many Miis as you can, keep them meeting each other, and regularly check in to fulfil their requests. Time-travelling does very little to support any of this, and it interrupts the natural flow of relationships and wish fulfilment that actually pushes the game forward.
In the end, you will get far more out of simply playing at your own pace, expanding your island, and letting the Miis do what they do best.
