Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen Reveals New Relic Expedition Gameplay

Capcom has given us a closer look at Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen with a new Relic Expedition Gameplay Overview, showing off the frozen region of Norgan and the Expedition Cycle players will experience when the expansion arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 9. Norgan was once a prosperous and heavily populated region, but now much of its civilisation has been reduced to timeworn relics, abandoned settlements and monsters lurking among the frost-covered wastes. Surviving an expedition won’t simply be about heading into the wilderness and hoping for the best. Players will need to prepare before setting out, making sure they have enough provisions, improving their equipment and finding safe places to rest without worrying about enemy incursions.

Hunting for Relics

Of course, there’s plenty of incentive to brave Norgan, with powerful relics scattered throughout the region. The inhabitants outside the Norgandian Settlement aren’t exactly going to welcome the Arisen with open arms. Beorcan warriors will attack anyone who approaches their smouldering firepits, while the Norgan Giant can entomb enemies in ice with a single breath. There’s also the ice dragon Fimbl, which guards relics with even greater potential. Combat isn’t the only way to find these treasures, either. Exploring abandoned settlements and caves can reward curious Arisen with valuable discoveries, while Freki, the direwolf living in the Norgandian Settlement, can help point players towards spoils for a price.

Appraising Your Discoveries

Finding a relic is only the beginning. Once you’ve collected one, you’ll need to bring it back to Jiera, the matron of the Norgandian Settlement, to have it appraised and reveal its true potential. Even relics that initially appear similar can turn out very differently after appraisal. Weapons and armour can provide improved stats based on the rarity of the original relic, while some can introduce new abilities or refine skills already possessed by the Arisen and their Pawn. That makes each expedition about more than simply surviving the journey. The discoveries you bring back can help make your next trip into Norgan even more rewarding.

A Free Title Update Arrives

Ahead of the expansion’s release, Capcom has also released a free Dragon’s Dogma 2 Title Update, making now a good time to jump back into the game. The update introduces framerate improvements, additional save slots and an expanded number of assignable weapon skills for combat. Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, which includes both Dragon’s Dogma 2 and the Dark Arisen expansion, arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 9. Players who pre-order will also receive the Norgan Fashion Set – Northern Attire, which can be accessed through in-game storage at launch.

I really enjoyed the original Dragon’s Dogma when it made its way to Switch, so seeing Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen heading to Nintendo Switch 2 has me pretty excited. The idea of exploring a brand-new frozen region, hunting down relics and slowly uncovering what Norgan has to offer sounds like a great excuse to jump back in.

Will you be joining the Arisen on their expedition when Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen arrives on Switch 2 this October?
