Easy Come, Easy Golf Nintendo Switch Review

Everybody’s Golf has been a smash hit on PlayStation over the years and while Mario and friends have hit the greens several times, I always missed the Everybody’s Golf series when I no longer had my PlayStation. That was until “Easy come, Easy golf” a game with a silly name, but a spiritual successor to the Everybody’s Golf series.

There’s a story hidden in the rough

Easy Come, Easy Golf revolves around a story to make Golf more entertaining, event organisers decided to have teams of golfer tackle a course and only one player plays a hole… like a golf relay team I suppose. This is the while gimmick behind Easy Come, Easy Golf, and while it may seem terrible, it’s actually quite a fun, albeit silly concept.

Your team will level up and be able to hit further, can be customized, and while the stand in “Mini Golfers” do the job, it’s kind of satisfying to have a full squad of golfers lined up to help dominate your opponents.

Boss Battle

Speaking of opponents, you can challenge “Managers” to a round of Golf to beat and unlock them for your team. These battles can be challenging and fun, and if you manage to get a decent enough lead, your opponent will call the game and then join your team. Admittedly at first, I was rather put off by this concept of “team” golf, but I started to find it exciting seeing new managers pop up on the world map to defeat, on top of unlocking courses.

Stick or Tap?

A great thing about Easy Come, Easy Golf is the control scheme and the options that come with it. Since the game is based off an iPhone port, the option for both Touch and the classic “Triple Tap” mode are available. The controls feel really smooth and well implemented, and it’s so satisfying sending a ball down range with a “Great shot” notification. You can apply backspin and front spin on your shots, and putting is a breeze thanks to the Triple Tap system. I did notice however, that the shot indicators did seem to vary a bit from hole to hole. Hitting a perfect shot on some holes still has the ball falling well below where the indicator said to should be, and that’s even with wind behind the ball. It didn’t happen a lot but can be a little frustrating, especially when the ball hits a bunker or water hazard, costing you the game.

The grass is greener

One thing I love about Easy Come, Easy Golf, is that the colours and characters are vibrant and vary, even if some of the characters are very stereotypical. Courses look great and are well laid out, and it’s exciting when you unlock a new region on the world map to play golf in. While some criticism may be directed at the low poly count (probably due to it being a phone game port,) there’s nothing really distracting from the gameplay and you don’t really notice it after a while.

Characters voices, however, can be a little grating, but thankfully they aren’t too over the top and dialogue seems to be kept to a minimum.

Looks like a birdie!

Overall, Easy Come, Easy Golf is a great game with rock solid gameplay, fantastic controls, and vibrant characters. With only a couple of minor issues keeping it from being a hole in one, Easy Come, Easy Golf is a great game that’s on par to being a worthy addition to your Nintendo Switch library. I would highly recommend it for fans of the genre, and even those looking to try something a bit different  with $25 to spare.

So what’s it like?

A cross between classic “Everybody’s Golf” and “Mario Golf.”

A great byte size game that you can sink a few rounds in on your commute or on a coffee break. By no mean original or groundbreaking, there's plenty of enjoyment to be had for it's small price point.
