Wube Software has announced Factorio Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, a major upgrade that brings one of the most beloved automation games to Nintendo’s next-generation console. Existing owners of the Switch version will not need to pay extra, as the upgrade will be completely free.
For those yet to experience Factorio on Nintendo’s platform, the new edition will also be available as part of a bundle, including both the base game and the Switch 2 upgrade.
A Smarter, Faster Factory
The Switch 2 Edition introduces a long list of improvements that take full advantage of the console’s upgraded hardware. Players can look forward to:
Native 1080p resolution in handheld mode, with support for up to 2160p (4K) when docked
Variable refresh rate support on the console’s display
Higher quality animations and enhanced sprites
Faster loading times and other general visual upgrades
The ability to build significantly larger bases
Mouse mode support using the Joy-Con motion sensor, allowing either controller to function as a pointer
In the studio’s words, “We don’t believe paying for a technical upgrade is reasonable.” Instead, Wube encourages players who wish to support ongoing development to check out Factorio: Space Age, the next major expansion for the game.
Factorio: Space Age Coming to Switch 2
Factorio: Space Age will arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 alongside the upgraded base game. Priced at $35 USD, the DLC will include the same full content as the PC version, without any reductions or platform compromises.
Fans can expect an expansive new chapter that pushes automation beyond the boundaries of a single planet and into the stars.
Release Timing
Both Factorio Nintendo Switch 2 Edition and the Space Age DLC are scheduled to launch as soon as possible, with Wube aiming for a December 2025 release window.
The team noted that certification and store setup can take time, so while December remains the target, an exact date will be announced once everything is finalised.
