Final Fantasy VII Revelation New Trailer Reveals Weapons, Highwind & More
Square Enix has given us another look at FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION, the third and final chapter in the FINAL FANTASY VII Remake series, and honestly, the new trailer looks absolutely incredible. Revealed during gamescom Opening Night Live, the latest trailer gives us a much closer look at what Cloud and the gang will be facing when the trilogy reaches its conclusion. FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in Autumn 2027 (ANZ). And after playing through FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE and FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH earlier this year, I’m particularly excited to see where this story goes next. We’ve come a very long way with Cloud and his companions, and this really does look like it’s setting up one enormous finale.
The Weapons Are Back
One of the biggest highlights of the new trailer is the return of the Weapons. These enormous creatures emerge as the planet itself is thrown into chaos, with absolutely no concern for who gets caught in the destruction. The trailer shows Cloud and his companions facing them across a variety of spectacular locations, including desert landscapes, aerial battles and even encounters beneath the sea. The Weapons were some of the most memorable optional battles in the original FINAL FANTASY VII, and it looks like they’re being given a seriously impressive makeover for FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION. Some of these encounters will even return as particularly challenging endgame battles, paying homage to their original forms and they look absolutely massive.
A Much Bigger World to Explore
The entire planet will be freely explorable using the Highwind, with players able to parachute down from the air and seamlessly transition into ground exploration. You’ll also have access to Chocobo mounts and a grappling hook, giving Cloud and the party plenty of ways to get around. With Meteor looming overhead and the Weapons causing destruction across the planet, there’s a lot going on. You’ll be able to decide where to go, who to help and the order in which you tackle different situations. It sounds like the game is aiming to give players a lot more freedom in how they approach this final chapter.
The Final Battle Begins
The story of FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION takes place as the planet edges closer and closer to destruction. Cloud and his companions are grieving the loss of a beloved ally, while Sephiroth continues his journey towards godhood. With Meteor threatening to destroy the planet and the Weapons running rampant, the group takes to the skies aboard the Highwind in one final attempt to save the world.
Everything that has happened across the FINAL FANTASY VII Remake project has been building towards this moment, and FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION is set to bring the story to its conclusion. After spending so much time with the first two games earlier this year, I’m genuinely hyped to see how Square Enix brings everything together. There are a lot of questions still hanging over this story, and this new trailer has only made me more curious about where we’re heading.
