FINAL FANTASY X | X-2 HD Remaster Launches on Nintendo Switch 2
Square Enix continues to strengthen its support for Nintendo Switch 2 by bringing more of its beloved catalogue to the system. Following the recent Switch 2 upgrade for Star Ocean: The Second Story R and the announcement that Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler II are also heading to Nintendo’s new console, another fan-favourite RPG has now made the jump.
FINAL FANTASY X | X-2 HD Remaster is now available digitally for Nintendo Switch 2, marking the first time these versions of the classic RPGs can be played natively on the system. The release also includes graphical enhancements over previous Nintendo versions.
The collection includes both FINAL FANTASY X and FINAL FANTASY X-2, two of the most celebrated entries in the long-running series. FINAL FANTASY X follows the journey of star athlete Tidus and summoner Yuna as they travel across the world of Spira on a pilgrimage to save it from destruction. Set two years later, FINAL FANTASY X-2 sees Yuna joined by Rikku and Paine as they uncover ancient secrets and face powerful new threats.
The release also arrives during a significant milestone for the franchise, with 2026 marking the 25th anniversary of FINAL FANTASY X’s original Japanese launch. To celebrate the occasion, Square Enix has also unveiled a brand-new 25th anniversary logo illustrated by Tetsuya Nomura.
One thing returning players should be aware of is that, much like Star Ocean: The Second Story R, there is no upgrade path for existing owners. The Switch 2 version also doesn’t support transferring save data from the original Nintendo Switch release, which may disappoint some fans. However, if you’ve never experienced these iconic adventures, or you’re simply looking for the best way to play them on Nintendo’s latest hardware, FINAL FANTASY X | X-2 HD Remaster remains an easy recommendation and one of the finest entries in the series.
