Games studio Raptor Claw has announced that FUR Squadron Phoenix, a roguelite on-rails space shooter inspired by the iconic 90s era of the genre, will launch on Nintendo Switch on February 25.
FUR Squadron Phoenix combines fast, arcade-style action with modern roguelite progression. Each run sees players advancing through a mix of virtual training simulations and real-world combat missions, earning points that can be used to unlock permanent upgrades to their ship’s damage, shields, and handling. High scores are also rewarded with unlockable ship skins for each level.
Missions are split into two distinct types. Virtual simulation levels place players in realistic yet stylised low-poly training environments, while real-world combat missions focus on genuine threats that put the Federation in danger.
To help push further into each increasingly challenging run, players can unlock and equip four powerful secondary weapons: the Guided Bomb, Multi-Missile Barrage, Laser Beam, and Nuke Strike. These options allow for flexible strategies as enemy patterns and difficulty ramp up.
Based on what has been shown so far, FUR Squadron Phoenix gives off strong Star Fox 64 vibes in the best possible way, and it is one I am genuinely looking forward to playing.
