How to Defeat Carvex
Metroid Prime 4 Beyond is finally here, and with it comes a bunch of boss fights to put Samus to the test. The first big bad is the boss Carvex, a giant carnivorous plant with some deadly attacks and unique mechanics. Want to trim this overgrown boss down to size? Let’s find out how.
This fight is best broken down into 4 phases.
Phase 1
Phase one starts out simple enough. Carvex will spawn 1 tentacle, which has a growth on it, while launching spinning projectiles at you. It will also try to box you in by launching projectiles on the ground. Simply shoot or avoid the projectiles while targeting the growth on the tentacle. Shooting these projectiles will give you energy, and rockets should you run low. Carvex will try to slam its tentacle on you. To avoid getting hit, simply dodge at the last minute. Once you blow the tentacle away, Carvex’s defences will open up, exposing its weak point on its belly, allowing you to attack with your arm cannon and rockets to inflict some damage.
Phase 2
Phase 2 will now see the same attack pattern repeat, but with two tentacles to avoid. While doing your best to avoid its attacks, you will want to blast away the protective shell from the growths of each tentacle, but don’t destroy them. Once both tentacles have their weak spots exposed, switch to your psychic visor and charge up a psychic beam and blast both tentacles away by guiding your beam to hit the weak spots. Once again, Carvex’s defences will drop, letting you deal some damage to chip away at its overall health.
Phase 3
Phase 3 is largely the same as phase 2, although this time Carvex will spawn 3 tentacles and add a new attack to its repertoire. Once Carvex tries slamming you with its tentacles, it will then sweep them across the ground. Simply jump to avoid this attack, watching out for the flying projectiles. Remove all 3 protective layers from each tentacle, avoiding destroying them altogether, and once they all have weak points exposed, guide that psychic beam to lop them off and deal more damage to the weak spot when Carvex’s defences drop.
Phase 4
The final phase is the same as phase 3, although this time Carvex grows and launches roots into the air to hinder your psychic beam ability. You got this. Simply expose the weak points on each tentacle, lop them off by carefully guiding your psychic beam through the roots, and unleash as much damage as you can one final time to defeat Carvex.
