How to Defeat Keratos – Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
The Ice Belt has unveiled its secrets, and it’s time to move to a warmer climate, but first, we have to face off against Keratos, a rocky armoured arachnid who really seems to have it in for Samus. Thankfully, we are armed to the teeth and have the power of friendship… I mean fire, to handle the heat. Want to take down Keratos? Here’s how to do it…
Keratos wastes no time in trying to destroy you, so as soon as the fight starts, be sure to aim at its giant green eye to start aggravating it. Hitting Keratos’ eye won’t deal damage, but keep it up, and it will force it to make a move to expose its weak spot underneath its hulking shell.
During this time, Keratos is going to make life difficult with a range of moves designed to put you in a world of hurt. Some are simple to dodge, like its ice spike attack, but some will test your mettle, like when Keratos spins into a circle, creating a small ice spike barrier around itself for protection. This move will draw you in closer, so switch to your fire shot and start unloading on the barrier. It will take over 10 shots to down, and once you break it, the attack should stop.
Keratos will also ground pound, sending a shockwave of ice your way. Use your double jump to avoid this. Keratos will also spin around the arena, causing significant damage if it hits you.
After you have agitated Keratos enough, it will spin on the spot and charge up an attack. With the ice wall behind you, simply dodge at the last second, and Keratos will get stuck on the wall, exposing its weak spot. Unleash as much firepower as you can to whittle down its health. The fire shot seems to do a heap of damage, so I recommend hitting the weak spot with that.
Keratos will now move into a second phase of attacks, which now includes sending out ice crystals that can freeze you on the spot. Thankfully, you can shoot these down rather easily, but if you do get frozen, mash that A button to break free.
Continue to attack its eye and repeat dodging at the last minute to expose its weak point. If all goes well, it should only take 4 phases to melt Keratos down using the fire shot.
