How to Defeat Varmis – Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
Things are heating up in the Sol Desert, and boss fights are about to get bigger with Varmis… a sand worm with an appetite for mech parts and destruction. Want to know how to beat Varmis? Here’s how…
This fight is relatively easy once you get the hang of the mechanics, as it doesn’t really change much.
Once Varmis swallows the container that is housing the mech part, follow the red dot by jumping on the Vi-o-La and heading to the dusty flat area in the desert. Varmis will jump out of the sand and make himself known. If you get knocked off the bike, do your best to get back on it ASAP, as you will need to race like the wind to defeat the giant sand beast.
From the outer edge of the flat area, start moving towards the centre. Varmis will emerge and charge at you in a game of chicken. Dodge at the last second and loop around to see the green area on Varmis’ tail. Charge your Vi-o-La attack and hit the tail to slow Varmis down, and as you get close, smash your turbo boost to crash into its tail.
You won’t damage Varmis with the Vi-o-La attack; that will only slow it down. You can damage Varmis only by crashing into it, so repeat this step as many times as necessary to whittle down its health.
Once you have defeated Varmis, it will lie lifeless in the desert, and you still need your mech part. So, turn into the morph ball, head into its mouth, and prepare to get messy. While still in the morph ball, drop a powerful psychic bomb by pressing the R button to destroy both the container and Varmis in the process, slap on a teleportation patch to the mech part, and prepare for the final showdown.
