How to Defeat Xelios – Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
You’ve bested a Sylux clone and made your way through tower 3, but now it’s time to fight Xelios, a spherical menace hell bent on taking Samus down. Thankfully, you’re most likely getting the hang of combat in Metroid Prime 4, so here’s a quick guide on how to flatten Xelios.
This fight has significantly simpler mechanics than some of the previous bosses you’ve fought, but Xelios does pack a lot of punch with its attacks. As the fight starts, Xelios outer panels will glow green, charge up your arm cannon and blast a chunk of them away, exposing Xelios’ core. Unleash as much damage as you can while the core is exposed to chip away at its health pool.
If you get close, Xelios will throw out a hex-like force field, which causes some heavy damage. As soon as you see the hex field go out, move back as fast as you can to avoid it. The second it drops, start focusing on firing on the core again. Xelios will launch some slow-moving projectiles at you, and getting hit by this will freeze you in place while Xelios throws out a hex field. Thankfully, you can easily avoid these by dodging. Xelios will then it will move away and dive beneath the ground, leaving a shockwave to spread across the arena. Jump the shockwave to dodge, charge up your arm cannon, and prepare to repeat the first phase.
Xelios will start to throw more projectiles your way as you chip down its health, keep removing the outer casing and shooting the core while doing your best to avoid the hex field attack. Xelios will start to charge up a powerful orb to shoot your direction. Do your best to avoid it and try to move in to remove more panels to fire upon its core.
With every phase, Xelios becomes more dangerous, adding new elements to its attacks like lightning beams, more projectile orbs, and even blade-style energy beams. Simply keep chipping away at its outer shell and fire on the core to defeat Xelios.
Once Xelios falls, you will unlock a new ability and finally be able to leave the Volt Forge. I’ll see you at the next boss fight, be sure ot pack a sweater, it’s going to be a cold one.
