How to Fast Travel in RuneScape Dragonwilds

We’ve crafted bows, learned how to fish, and probably spent far too much time exploring the world of RuneScape: Dragonwilds. But as the world gets bigger, there’s one problem we’re eventually going to run into: getting from one side of Ashenfall to the other can take a very, very long time. Thankfully, there is a way to fast travel around Dragonwilds, but the game doesn’t exactly do the best job of explaining how Lodestones work, how to build them, or where you should actually put them. So, in this guide, we’re going to cover everything you need to know about fast travel, including how to unlock Lodestones, where to find the materials you need, and a few tips to help you make the most of your fast travel network. Let’s get moving!

How to Fast Travel in RuneScape Dragonwilds

Unlocking Lodestones

Before we can start teleporting around Ashenfall, we’re going to need to unlock the ability to build Lodestones. To do that, you’ll need to obtain a Vault Core from a Dragonkin Vault. Thankfully, there are a couple of Vaults you can access relatively early in the game. There’s one up in the woods near where you’ll find the old man from the main quest, and there’s another one in the swamp area that you can reach fairly early in your adventure. These Vaults are worth remembering, because their valuable resources can replenish after a few in-game days. That means you can return to them later and farm additional Vault Cores, which makes building additional Lodestones much easier as you explore further.

Once you’ve got your Vault Core, the Lodestone recipe will become available, and you’ll need 32 Stone, 20 Rune Essence, and 1 Vault Core to build one.

The Lodestone can be constructed directly from your Build Menu, so you don’t need to worry about finding a crafting station first. There’s a pretty handy bonus when you build your first Lodestone. Doing so will activate the previously inactive Temple Woods Lodestone, giving you another fast travel point without needing to construct one yourself.

How to Fast Travel

Now that we’ve got our Lodestone set up, actually using fast travel is pretty simple. Interact with an active Lodestone, and you’ll be able to choose another active Lodestone as your destination. However, there’s one important thing to keep in mind: fast travel isn’t completely free. You’ll need Law Runes to teleport, and the number of Law Runes required depends on the distance you’re travelling and the weight you’re carrying. So, if you’ve just returned from a massive mining expedition with an inventory absolutely packed with rocks, ore, and everything else you’ve decided you might need, you could end up spending more Law Runes than you expected. I use this method to fill up on ores, and it’s not too bad, but something to keep in mind if you’re running low on runes.

Where Should You Build Lodestones?

This brings us to the most important part of using the fast travel system: deciding where to put your Lodestones. You don’t necessarily want to build one every time you find yourself somewhere new. Instead, think about the places you’re going to be visiting regularly. Your main base is an obvious choice, but you might also want to build Lodestones near areas with important resources, regions you’re currently exploring, or locations that would otherwise require a particularly long journey to reach. I built one on the edge of the Fractured Plains and Stormtouched Highlands so I can quickly mine Tin, Copper, and Iron.

You can also use them to make trips to Dragonkin Vaults much easier. Dragonkin Vaults aren’t something you can simply clear once and forget about. After their cooldown has passed, you can return and tackle them again for more resources. So, if you’ve got a Lodestone near a Vault, you can create a really useful little routine. Clear the Vault, collect your resources, fast travel back to your base, drop everything into storage, and then, once the Vault has reset, which takes about 3 in game days,  make the journey back and do it all over again. It turns what could be a long trip across the map into a much more manageable farming loop.

Happy Travelling!

And there you have it! That’s everything you need to know about fast travel in RuneScape: Dragonwilds. Find yourself a Vault Core, gather your Stone and Rune Essence, build your Lodestones, and start creating your own fast travel network across Ashenfall. Just remember to keep some Law Runes handy, don’t teleport with a backpack full of unnecessary weight, and think carefully about where you’re placing your Lodestones. Once you’ve got a few useful locations connected, getting around Dragonwilds becomes a whole lot easier. If this guide helped you out, let me know in the comments.
