How to Fish in RuneScape Dragonwilds – Beginner Fishing Guide

We’ve built houses, crafted bows, taken on some of the dangers of Dragonwilds, and now it’s time to sit back, relax, and do a little fishing. Although, if you’re anything like me, you’re probably losing more fish and bait than you’re actually bringing home for dinner. So, let’s fix that. In this guide, I’ll show you how to get started with fishing, how to unlock your fishing rod, and, most importantly, how to actually catch the fish once you’ve got one on the line. Let’s go fishing!

How to Fish in RuneScape Dragonwilds

Fishing is one of those skills in RuneScape: Dragonwilds that seems pretty straightforward at first, but the game doesn’t exactly hold your hand when it comes to getting started. Before you can grab a fishing rod and start reeling in fish, you’re actually going to need to start with a fishing net, and that means we’re going to need some thread. If you’re not sure how to craft thread, check our Bow and Arror guide on how ot do so, and once you’ve got your thread, you can use it to craft a Fishing Net.

With your net in hand, head to a fishing spot and you’ll be able to start catching some fish. You’ll need to level up your Fishing skill to level 3 before you can craft the Fishing Rod. So, grab your net and start fishing in the smaller circles in streams and rivers. It won’t take too long to reach level 3, and once you do, the Fishing Rod recipe will unlock.

Crafting the Fishing Rod

Once you’ve reached Fishing level 3, you’ll finally be able to upgrade from the humble fishing net to a proper Fishing Rod. Head over to your crafting station, find the Fishing Rod recipe, gather the required materials, and craft it. To craft your first Fishing Rod, the Ash Rod, you’ll need 1 Ash Log and 1 Coarse Thread. Now we’re ready to do some proper fishing.

How to Catch Fish

This is where things get a little more interesting, because fishing in Dragonwilds isn’t simply a case of holding down a button and waiting for dinner. Once you’ve hooked a fish, you’ll need to pay attention to the direction it’s moving. If the fish moves to the right, you’ll want to hold left. If the fish moves to the left, you’ll want to hold right. Basically, you’re trying to keep the fish under control while managing your stamina. The most important thing to remember: don’t constantly try to reel the fish in while it’s moving, as you will lose stamina too quickly and it’s all over. When the fish is moving, focus on controlling its direction. When it stops moving, that’s your opportunity to reel it in.

Managing Your Stamina

Speaking of stamina, this is something you’ll want to keep an eye on while fishing. It’s very easy to panic when a fish starts moving around and just hold the reel button, but that’s exactly what you don’t want to do. Instead, try to stay calm, watch the fish, counter its movement, and save your stamina for those moments when you can actually reel it in. It’s also worth making sure your character is in good shape before starting a longer fishing session. Keep yourself fed and hydrated, and if you have a Well Rested buff available, that’s even better, as it can help with stamina regeneration. The better you manage your stamina, the longer you’ll be able to fish before needing to stop and recover.

Happy Fishing!

And there you have it! That’s everything you need to get started with Fishing in RuneScape: Dragonwilds. Craft your thread, make a net, level up to Fishing level 3, craft your rod, and then remember to keep an eye on that fish and, most importantly, your stamina. Once you’ve got the technique down, fishing becomes a much more relaxing way to spend your time in Dragonwilds. If this guide helped you out, let me know in the comments.
