How to Make a Bow & Arrows in RuneScape Dragonwilds
Many brave adventurers are stepping into the world of RuneScape: Dragonwilds today, a world full of danger, dragons, and adventure. But what most people don’t know is that they’ll face their greatest challenge very early in the game: figuring out how to make a bow and arrows. Never fear! This guide will help you start dealing some long-range damage in no time. Let’s find out how!

Unlocking the Bow Recipe
So, early on in the game, you’re tasked with hunting some deer, and despite being able to build a house and cook rats, you don’t seem to be able to make a bow. That’s because, while the bow itself is fairly easy to make, unlocking the recipe is a little more convoluted than you might expect. First, you’re going to want to harvest a bunch of the blue flowers you’ll find around you. These are Flax, and harvesting them should unlock the first step in your journey to becoming an archer: the Spinning Wheel.
To construct the Spinning Wheel, you’ll need 12 Ash Logs, 4 Flax, and 2 Stone.
If you can’t see the Spinning Wheel after harvesting your Flax, remember that once you’re in the build menu, you can tab across from General to Crafting Construction. Build and place your Spinning Wheel, and then we’re ready for the next step.

Crafting the Bow
Once it’s placed, use the Spinning Wheel to turn your Flax into Coarse Thread. And this is the important bit: creating Coarse Thread will unlock the Ashwood Bow recipe!
To craft the bow, you’ll need 12 Ash Logs and 3 Coarse Thread.
The Ashwood Bow is crafted at your Crafting Table, and you’ll find it in a category below the shields. Navigate down to it, craft your bow, and congratulations, you’re now an archer! Well, almost… We’re going to need some arrows.
Unlocking Arrows
Funnily enough, I actually unlocked the arrow recipe before I could make my bow. To unlock the recipes, all you need to do is kill some chickens and collect their feathers. This will unlock two types of arrows for you to craft: Stone Arrows and Fang Arrows. Fang Arrows offer significantly more damage, but you’ll need to kill rats and harvest their fangs to make them.
Stone Arrows require 1 Stone, 1 Ash Log, and 1 Feather to craft.
Fang Arrows offer significantly more damage, but you’ll need to kill rats and harvest their fangs to make them. They require 1 Fang, 1 Ash Log, and 1 Feather.
So, craft whichever arrows you have the materials for, and you’re ready to head back out into the world, hunt those deer, and progress your questline through Dragonwilds!

Using the Bow
As for actually using the bow, you’ll need to aim before you can fire. On Switch 2, you aim with L2 and fire with R2. Eventually, you’ll unlock rapid attacks, which are great for combat and don’t require you to aim each shot. Just remember to mix in a few dodges to help keep you alive when enemies start getting a little too close for comfort!
You’re Ready to Hunt!
And there you have it! With your bow in hand, you can now hunt deer, take on goblins, and even craft some targets to hone your skills. If this guide helped you out, let me know in the comments. And for all things Nintendo, stay tuned to What’s It Like?
