How to Wake Snorlax in Bleak Beach (Brighten Things Up Guide)

Bleak Beach in Pokopia is hardly the seaside getaway you were probably hoping for. After spending a little time there, you will be tasked with brightening the place up during the “Brighten Things Up” quest. Much like getting Slowpoke’s yawm up to scratch earlier in the game, this quest focuses on improving your Bright Power to push back the gloomy atmosphere surrounding the beach. Of course, there is one rather large obstacle standing in the way. A sleeping Snorlax that is in desperate need of a wake-up call. In this guide, we’ll show you exactly how to wake Snorlax in Bleak Beach during the Brighten Things Up quest. Now, you’re in a hurry, and we have things to build, so let’s dive right into the guide.

How to Wake Snorlax in Bleak Beach

Now, this guide assumes you have already made some headway in the Bleak Beach area, like fixing the Pokémon Centre PC by blocking the water source, as well as steadily welcoming new Pokémon back to the area. The main Pokémon requests you will need to fulfil to unlock the “Brighten Things Up” quest are Piplup, Meowth, and Trubbish. You will know you are getting close when Trubbish asks you to repair the bridge.

Eventually, Meowth and Trubbish will tell you they have heard a strange noise and ask you to investigate. It turns out the sound is coming from behind a wall which you need to break down with Rock Smash. Behind it you will find Mosslax, a Snorlax who has slept for so long that it is completely covered in moss. There are flowers growing on Mosslax’s head that need to bloom before it will wake up. This kicks off a quest that feels similar to building Yawn Power earlier in the game, except this time we need to brighten up Bleak Beach.

How to Wake Mosslax in Bleak Beach

Meowth will ask you to start manually turning on lights around the area. To do this, have Pawmi, or any other Electric-type Pokémon, follow you. Walk near a light and they will charge it to power it up. You can activate as many lights as you like, but you only need three for the quest and we will be able to power up the rest much more efficiently later, so just do the three for now. Professor Tangrowth will also hint that fire can help brighten up the world. If you have been talking to Torchic, you may remember the “Resort Meal Prep” habitat, which includes a campfire, plated food, and a seat next to a palm tree. If you have already placed one, great. If not, build one now. I added a few extra campfires to the beach for aesthetics, and every bit of light helps.

Keep checking in with Professor Tangrowth to monitor the status of the flowers on Mosslax’s head. To give yourself a big boost to lighting, you can remove electricity poles from the ground in some areas and spread them out across other parts of Bleak Beach by connecting them to the water wheel. You can also strategically place power poles up the lighthouse behind the water wheel to light that up as well. Keep checking in with Professor Tangrowth, and eventually you will be prompted to check if someone is ok. This is when you meet Peakychu, a Pikachu that has lost its colour from helping other Pokémon generate electricity.

Now the power-up quest really begins.

Peakychu, which I believe they should have called Bleakychu, will start giving you requests and teaching you the ways of harnessing electricity. Its requests will unlock the ability to build your own electricity poles, which means you can replace missing ones around town. Just look for the grey blocks with circular dots on them. Filling these in will help significantly light up Bleak Beach. Peakychu will also give you a recipe to create Shell Lamps. Place a few around Mosslax in the cave for good measure. It will even eventually show you how windmills generate electricity, unlocking Windmill Kits at the Pokémon Centre PC. Build one, connect it to your grid, and if you have lit up the area enough, you should have two more important requests ready to go.

First, Torchic will take you to a furnace where you can burn items to generate power. Toss a few logs in there and connect it to your grid. Second, Peakychu will show you a power charging station, which becomes the key to completing this quest. Connect the charging station to your grid and check how many of the five lights turn on. For me, I had four lights. Because I had a lot of power being drawn near the Pokémon Centre, I simply removed one of the poles powering that area so more energy could flow back into the main grid. If that still does not boost your power, make sure your furnace is burning, confirm you are connected to every available power source including your windmill, and check the area next to the lighthouse and over the hill. Connect those power sources into your grid and you should be able to light up all five indicators. Talk to Peakychu and let it know you’ve restored the power, and you’ve almost completed the quest!

Now, I learned my lesson from my first area walkthrough, so I will end the guide here to avoid any spoilers. Enjoy what happens next, and great job completing the “Brighten Things Up” quest in Pokopia. I will see you in the Rocky Ridges for the next guide.
