Mario Kart Tour Is Shutting Down This September
After nearly seven years on iOS and Android, Nintendo has announced that Mario Kart Tour will officially reach the end of the road. The free-to-play mobile racer will shut down on 29 September 2026 (PT), bringing an end to one of Nintendo’s biggest mobile games. Once service ends, the game will no longer be playable, with Nintendo confirming there are currently no plans for an offline version.
Ruby Sales Have Already Ended
As part of the shutdown process, Nintendo has already discontinued the sale of Rubies, the game’s premium currency. If you still have Rubies sitting in your account, don’t panic, they can continue to be spent in the Spotlight Shop, Mii Racing Suit Shop and Coin Rush until the game closes in September.
Gold Pass Is Becoming Free
Nintendo is also making one final goodwill gesture to players.
Existing Gold Pass subscribers will continue receiving most Gold Pass benefits for free until the game shuts down, although ongoing subscription rewards have been removed. Players who aren’t currently subscribed won’t miss out either. Beginning with the Vacation Tour on 4 August, every player will receive Gold Pass benefits at no cost through to the end of service on 29 September. This includes:
Gold Gifts
Gold Challenges
200cc races
Increased daily coin and base point limits
Faster multiplayer pipe progression
Multiplayer rank cap increased to S+9
Continuous subscription bonuses, however, are no longer available.
The End of an Era
Released in September 2019, Mario Kart Tour became Nintendo’s most successful mobile launch, introducing city-themed courses inspired by real-world locations alongside new characters, karts and seasonal Tours. Many of its original circuits would later find a second life in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s Booster Course Pass, ensuring that much of the game’s best content lives on beyond mobile. While Nintendo stopped producing new content for Mario Kart Tour back in 2023, the game continued cycling through previous Tours, giving longtime players a chance to revisit old favourites. Now, after years of updates and millions of races, the finish line is finally in sight. If you’ve been meaning to jump back in for one last Tour, you’ve got until 29 September 2026 before the lights go out for good.
