Jump on the next Dodo flight and grab your weeding gloves, because the Animal Crossing 3.0 update is here. It brings a ton of new content for all players, as well as a Switch 2 version available as a paid upgrade. If you’re like me and returning to a wasteland of neglect, there are a lot of new features that can feel overwhelming. But don’t worry! Your Animal Crossing island tour guide is here to show you what’s new and what to tackle on your first day back. With that in mind, let’s head to our island paradise and see what’s waiting for us in the Animal Crossing 3.0 Update for both Nintendo Switch 1 & 2.
Meet Resetti in the Town Square
A change is as good as a holiday, and since I’ve been away from my island, things have gone rather awry. Thankfully, Mr Resetti has made a triumphant return, and you can meet him right out front of the Resident Services building. Mr Resetti has expanded his recovery service to include a Resetti service that helps players clean their islands, whether it’s a section, the beach, or the whole island. Since my island was covered in spoiled turnips from a failed video that cost me roughly 45 million bells, I decided to start fresh and reset the whole island.
There are a few options when resetting, such as keeping flowers and planted items, or preserving placed textures like paths. But Resetti is relentless with everything else. He returned all my island decorations, including fences and hedges, to my home storage while disposing of all the spoiled turnips. He did tell me that he is not going to undercut another budding business, so he left the weeds behind, but aside from a few weeds, this reset service saved me hours of picking up spoiled turnips, and it is an absolute must if your island has gotten out of hand.
Head to the Pier to Unlock the Hotel and Decorating Jobs
Now that we don’t have to stumble over all our mess, head into the Resident Services building. You will notice that Tom Nook is out of the office. Isabelle tells you he is at the hotel, and even though it is not officially open yet, you should pop by to see what all the fuss is about.
Head down to the pier, and you will see it has been extended and upgraded with a fancy new hotel. Step inside and meet Kapp’n and the rest of his family, who have all joined this new venture. There is only one problem. None of the rooms are ready. Tom Nook, ever the opportunist, remembers your decorating skills and volunteers you for the job. On your first day, you get to decorate two rooms, although you only need to complete one to officially open the hotel. This is the perfect time to try out the mouse mode controllers on Switch 2. They are intuitive and make decorating a breeze.
Once you have finished decorating, collect your hotel points. These points unlock the Grams Souvenir Shop, where you can see if anything catches your eye. More rewards will be added later, so feel free to save them for the future.
Head outside the hotel to unlock the crafted goods service
Head outside the hotel, and you will see that Tom Nook has a renewed taste for profits. He suggests the hotel is a great way to introduce visitors to “The Goods”… well, your crafted goods specifically. This is a drop box that updates with items you can donate for points.
The handy thing is that the DIY Recipes app now has a tab specifically for requests, so get crafting and selling for points. There are a few new changes that make your life easier. You can now craft using items from your storage, and you can craft multiple items at once, making crafting a breeze. Donate five items to earn some bonus points, and feel free to donate more if you wish. With every request fulfilled, a new one takes its place, so you can craft to your heart’s content. I recommend installing a kitchen and a crafting bench nearby to make everything easier.
Get a Megaphone from Nook’s Cranny (Switch 2 only)
After all this hard work, you might want to do some socialising, but you don’t want to run around your island looking for your residents and wasting energy. Head over to Nook’s Cranny to purchase the megaphone. On the Switch 2, simply press and hold the A button while calling your resident’s name. If they are outside and nearby, they will respond, making it easy to find them and catch up on all the hot gossip.
Attend the Hotel Opening Ceremony at Resident Services (Town Hall)
Now that you’ve caught up with your friends, it’s time to officially open the hotel. Speak to Tom Nook at the Resident Services building, and he will tell you about the planned opening ceremony. Chat with him and let him know you’re ready. The whole town will then gather at the hotel for the ceremony, with speeches from the proprietors, the first guest, and even you. Don’t worry about preparing a long speech, as you can keep it short and enjoy a wonderful moment and a huge milestone for your island.
Talking to Tom Nook About Expanding Home Storage
Now that you’ve done a lot for your island, it’s time to treat yourself to some new storage. Head back to Resident Services and speak to Tom Nook to upgrade your storage. Make sure you have a decent cash flow, as the first of the new upgrades will set you back a cool 1.5 million bells. Hand over the bells and wait until the next day to stash your extra items.
Use the ABD to Purchase New Lego Items
Before you leave the Resident Services building, check out the Automatic Bell Dispenser and head to the Nook Shopping menu. Under special items, you can now purchase new Lego collaboration items to deck out a room. You can only order five items per day from the ABD, so choose your key pieces first. This allows you to start planning your room and add to it over the next few days until it is entirely covered in Lego.
This is a really cool collaboration and a great nod to the Animal Crossing Lego sets you can buy in real life. That reminds me, I still need to build my Animal Crossing Museum set that I got from Santa!
Go to Sleep to Create Your Slumber Island
It has been a huge day, so head home and get some well‑deserved rest. When you go to sleep, you will unlock the new Slumber Island feature. Luna will visit you in your dreams, and she will ask what sort of island you want to create and guide you through the basics of this new creative mode. Once you have chosen an island layout, you can build the island of your dreams using any furniture you have collected as well as villagers you have recruited. You can place items, move buildings, and design your Slumber Island exactly how you imagine it.
If you have friends with their own copy of the game, they can join you and help you build together in this all-new creative mode. Slumber Island is a great way to relax and try out bold ideas without affecting your main island.

That is the big question, isn’t it? Tomorrow is going to be full of surprises and adventure, with more features to unlock, such as becoming a hotel fashionista and discovering new items to buy and collect.
You might want to visit your old pal Brewster before tackling the next day’s activities. Animal Crossing is back in a big way thanks to the 3.0 update and the Switch 2 version. Whichever version you play, you are sure to have your island life adventure rekindled with these fantastic updates.
