Nintendo Acquires Shiver, the Studio behind Mortal Kombat and Hogwarts Legacy Switch Ports

Nintendo Japan shared an interesting press release today, announcing it will acquire 100% of shares of Switch port specialist studio, Shiver, which is responsible for the incredible Hogwarts Legacy and Mortal Kombat 11 ports (Not to be confused with Mortal Kombat 1)

Shiver was previously under the control of the Embracer group that has been shuttering studios after buying them all up in a failed investment strategy, garnering the brunt of discourse currently aimed at industry layoffs.

Why is this investment a big deal? I assume this would open the doors for more ports to come to Nintendo hardware, perhaps even Nintendo themselves having the internal studio handle ports for other developers, thus making bringing more game over a much more appealing prospect.

Whatever the case may be, It’s a good sign Nintendo is in such a strong position to start buying up industry talent.
