No Man’s Sky Orbital adds Ship Customization and More…

Despite many people theorizing that the Omega Update was the end of development for No Man’s Sky, Sean Murray and HelloGames have announced yet another game-changing update titled: Orbital. Orbital doesn’t launch with an expedition like most add-ons, but will easily give travelers a lot to do in this massive update. So prepare your hyperdrive as we look at the upcoming changes expected to be released shortly on Nintendo Switch.

Space Station Overhauls – Exterior

Space Station exteriors have been completely changed and now resemble hulking space structures that change depending on many variables like race, economy, and system status. These new designs bring a much wider colour palette range as well as an incredible new level of detail sure to impress space explorers.

Space Station Overhauls – Interior

On top of the exterior of space stations getting an overhaul, the interiors have also received a drastic change allowing players to experience a completely new experience aboard space stations after they dock. As well as visual improvements, navigating to essential shops and technical equipment is now easier to do and stations include more nooks to explore and now vary tremendously from system to system.

Space Station Variety

Space Station interiors are now procedurally generated and change with every station. There are several different designs that you can discover in your travels.

Reputation Discounts

Your standing and reputation now influence the price of trade goods and services aboard space stations, giving a lot more depth to the current standing system. This will encourage players to invest more time into taking guild missions and bounties to help with trades.

Trade Surges

The starship Economy Scanner can now sweep for market surges in nearby star systems. These time-limited events present high-profit opportunities for enterprising traders, revealing which trade commodities are currently scarce and in high demand.

Ship Customisation

The number one fan request is finally here: Ship Customisation. HelloGames has implemented it in a way where you can salvage planetary wrecks and owned ships to unlock parts for this feature, which is great as it doesn’t wipe the usefulness of social media communities setup for ship hunting. Naturally-hunted ships acquired by traditional methods can be identified by the Authenticated Starship seal, and attract a bonus in price when traded.

Fleet Mission Overhaul

According to the official website, Fleet Missions also have been overhauled: “Fleets of frigates engaged in interstellar expeditions may reach out for remote guidance, or even request your presence for direct intervention! Advise your commanders in situations relating to crew management, strange space phenomena, risky exploration ventures and more – or warp to their system to help defend the fleet against attack!

Your choices matter: decisions made will directly impact the outcome and rewards of expedition events.”
