Pokémon Pokopia: Where to Find Grubby Pearls in Bubbly Basin & How to Make Them Shiny
If you’re playing Bubbly Basin in Pokémon Pokopia, you’re going to need to shine up a whole lot of Grubby Pearls, turning them into Shiny Pearls for furniture, gifts, and, most importantly, the major building project of the DLC. But when you first start out, Grubby Pearls can feel pretty few and far between. Fear not, as this guide will show you how to get a heap of Grubby Pearls and turn them into Shiny Pearls. Let’s dive in!
How to Obtain Grubby Pearls
Before we begin, there are a few things worth knowing about Grubby Pearls. They are usually found sitting on sand blocks, so keep an eye out for sandy areas when exploring Bubbly Basin.
Grubby Pearls can also rarely be given to you by Pokémon as a friendship gift. Once you reach Habitat Level 3 in Bubbly Basin, you can also purchase three sets of three Grubby Pearls from the Pokémon Centre PC.
But if you’re looking for a serious haul of pearls, there are two locations that are worth knowing about. Each one can have around 10–15 Grubby Pearls, making them much more efficient than simply searching around the Basin.
Bubbly Basin Pearl Location
The first location is also the easiest to find. Simply swim towards the back of Bubbly Basin, past the tall, imperial-looking building, and head in the direction of the smaller imperial building. Across the small chasm, you’ll find a sandy area covered with 10–15 Grubby Pearls. Simply swim across and collect them all… It’s a quick and easy way to stock up, especially if you’re only looking for a handful of pearls.
Basin Dream Island
The second method is also great if you’re looking to build up a large supply, but you first need to find the Starmie doll while exploring with Frillish. Using Drifloon and the Starmie Doll, visit a Basin Dream Island, as these islands can feature sandy outcrops containing a large number of Grubby Pearls. Simply land on the island, collect the pearls, and then head home when you’re done! Using these two methods, I was able to collect more than 40 Grubby Pearls in less than five minutes, making gathering in these two locations an incredibly efficient way to stock up if you’re preparing for Bubbly Basin’s biggest project.
How to Make Shiny Pearls
So, you’ve got yourself a pile of Grubby Pearls. Now it’s time to give them a good scrub! To turn your Grubby Pearls into Shiny Pearls, you’ll need to give them to a Pokémon with the Scrub skill. So far, I’ve only found Sharpedo capable of scrubbing the pearls, but according to the Pokédex, Shellder can also handle the job. Simply hand your Grubby Pearls over to Sharpedo, ask it to scrub them for you, and after a short while, your grubby little pearls will be transformed into shiny pearls! Even better, you can scrub up to 10 pearls at a time. So, if you’ve managed to recruit Shellder, you can polish through a big batch of Grubby Pearls pretty quickly. Once they’re shiny, they’re ready to be used for furniture, gifts, and the major building project in Bubbly Basin.
