The Storyteller: An interview with Christie Golden
Some of the greatest adventures we play and read immerse us in beautifully crafted worlds. While graphics and gameplay grab our attention, it’s the story, the characters, and the emotions that truly bring our favourite games and franchises to life. Sometimes, the pen is mightier than the polygons when it comes to building worlds that stay with us long after the credits roll. Few writers embody that magic more than Christie Golden. Across World of Warcraft, Star Wars, Assassin’s Creed, StarCraft, Star Trek, and beyond, her stories have helped define the heart and soul of some of the most beloved universes in gaming and fiction.
For me, it was Christie’s Warcraft novels that transported me back to Azeroth and deepened my love for the world Blizzard had created. While recovering from my brain injury, it was her novel Arthas: Rise of the Lich King that helped me overcome my struggles with reading, bringing one of Warcraft’s most complex characters to life and rekindling my passion for storytelling. Much like the heroes in the stories we love, the journey to this interview has been fraught with danger from COVID-19, two cyclones, and flash floods. Today, it’s an absolute honour to sit down with the storyteller herself, Christie Golden. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did.
