Two Nintendo Directs Are Coming This Week, Including a Zelda 40th Anniversary Showcase
Zelda 40th Anniversary Showcase
Nintendo is wasting absolutely no time this week, with two Nintendo Direct presentations coming to Nintendo’s YouTube channel across two consecutive nights, and as someone who spends far too much time talking about Nintendo games, you can probably guess where I’ll be when both broadcasts go live. First up is a special The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct, which will celebrate four decades of one of Nintendo’s most beloved franchises. The presentation will take place on Wednesday, September 9 at 12:00 am AEST, with Nintendo confirming that the livestream will run for roughly 30 minutes. I’ve always loved The Legend of Zelda series, and with the franchise now approaching its 40th anniversary, there are plenty of possibilities for what Nintendo could have planned. I’m particularly hoping we get to see more of Ocarina of Time, which remains one of my favourite games in the series alongside Wind Waker.
Of course, the biggest question is just how far Nintendo is willing to go with the celebrations. A Twilight Princess and Wind Waker HD collection would be an absolute dream, and I’d love to see Nintendo finally bring these two classics together on Switch 2. I’m also really keen to see more of the upcoming Zelda movie, which could give us another look at Nintendo’s plans for bringing Link and Zelda to the big screen. Whatever Nintendo has planned, 30 minutes should be more than enough time to celebrate 40 years of Zelda, and given just how much history there is to draw from, I’m expecting this to be a particularly exciting one.
But Nintendo isn’t stopping there.
Nintendo Direct – 10/09/2026
Just 24 hours later, we’ll be back for another Nintendo Direct. The Nintendo Direct – 10/09/2026 will take place on Thursday, September 10 at 12:00am AEST, with the presentation running for roughly 45 minutes and focusing on Nintendo Switch 2 games launching this winter. These are always some of my favourite Nintendo broadcasts because there tends to be something for everyone. Whether you’re looking for first-party announcements, third-party games, release dates or a surprise nobody saw coming, you never quite know what Nintendo is going to pull out of the hat. One game I’m particularly hoping to see more of is Space Marine 2, especially now that it’s coming to Switch 2. Seeing the game properly in action on Nintendo’s hardware would be fascinating, and I’m also keeping my fingers crossed that Nintendo has a few surprises waiting for us. The good news is that Switch 2 feels like it’s really starting to hit its stride. We’ve already had a growing selection of games arrive on the system, and I’m genuinely happy with the way the library is shaping up. So rather than wondering whether Switch 2 has enough games to play, I’m now much more interested in seeing what Nintendo and its partners have lined up next.
And yes, I’ll be covering both Directs live, so if you’re planning on staying up until midnight with me, make sure you stick around.
When and where can I watch the Nintendo Directs?
Both presentations will be livestreamed on the Nintendo AU YouTube channel.
It’s going to be a very late couple of nights for Nintendo fans in Australia, but with a Zelda 40th anniversary celebration followed immediately by a Switch 2-focused Nintendo Direct, I have a feeling it’ll be worth losing a little sleep over.
