Upcoming Switch Games for December
I feel like I’m still recovering from October and November’s outstanding lineup of titles, and have plenty of reviews I’m trying to catch up on (Sorry Wargroove 2 and Sandrock!) the December line-up for Switch is looking to be a bit more tame than what we’ve had, and I’m not complaining. There are some huge titles from a Super Hero Trilogy, to a create-your-own D&D Campaign. So with further rambling, let’s take a look at the upcoming Switch games for December!
Batman: The Arkham Knight Collection – Dec 1
Is this the game the Dark Knight needs, but doesn’t deserve? The Arkham Trilogy consists of Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, and Arkham Knight all in one download. My review of this one has been divisive, to say the least, but I was unimpressed with the performance, and having to download 50 gigs despite purchasing the cartridge. Some viewers have told me that they are enjoying their time in Gotham so if you’re a fan of the series, this might be one to check out, but I felt that only 2 out of the 3 titles were in a decent state, with Arkham Knight suffering awful performance and visual issues.
Dragons Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince – Dec 1
I’m currently working my way through this one and it’s very enjoyable so far! The Dragon Quests Monsters games are a spinoff of the main series that follow a more Pokemon-style twist, training and collecting Monsters to fight on your behalf. I’m not sure what’s going on with the marketing of this one since it just released with little to no fanfare, but hopefully, that changes soon leading into the holiday season.
One of the game’s biggest strengths is the ability to fuse monsters together, creating new monsters for battles, and rewarding players for experimenting with monster types and abilities. The game has a lot of depth and a lot of gameplay hours, so be sure to stay tuned for my review soon!
ToasterBall – Dec 1
I just finished reviewing Toasterball and despite the ridiculous premise of toasters in competitive sports, the game is a gem, providing you with many hours of fun gameplay and belly-aching laughs. It plays on the absurdity of it all and is like someone mixed toasters with Rocket League. It has a myriad of modes to unlock and play and because of the constant content shuffle during matches, it never really gets old. Highly recommend checking this one out!
Steamworld Build – Dec 2
I honestly don’t think there has been a bad Steamworld game released to date, and Steamworld Build is not different, tasking players to build their own mining town and develop the mines underneath in a hybrid sim/strategy game. Players can develop production chains, manage resources and expansions, and tackle the dangers that lurk below. I’m really looking forward to getting my hands on this one soon!
While the Iron’s Hot – Dec 6
To be honest, I only just discovered this game and it looks intriguing. While the Iron’s Hot is a pixel art-style adventure that sees you becoming a skilled blacksmith in a faraway land. You can craft, explore, and build relationships with new artisans. The game also entrusts you with rebuilding a village and looks like a great game to get lost in.
Born of Bread – Dec 6
Born of Bread is a comical take on the 2.5D turn-based RPG genre where you play as a sentient flour golem. Players will uncover a story that’s a thousand years in the making as they explore a variety of locations across this world. They won’t have to do it alone, however, as they will make many friends along the way, each with their own unique styles and abilities that add something new to the hybrid combat system.
A Highland Song – Dec 6
A Highland Song is a unique concept that incorporates the survival genre, with platforming and rhythm game elements to tell the story of Moira, who must journey through the hills to the sea. You will discover shortcuts and secrets that make your journey faster the next time you play, encouraging exploration and multiple playthroughs. The soundtrack is composed by Laurence Chapman alongside two multi-award-winning giants of the Scottish folk scene, TALISK, and Fourth Moon and it looks to be an engrossing and emotional journey.
Outer Wilds Dec – 8
I missed the Outer Wilds when it was initially released on Xbox, so I’m glad that it’s coming to Switch with a gamer-friendly price point. The Outer Wilds is an open-world exploration game set in an endle ss time loop. You can discover locations that may be affected by time further in your playthrough such as ruins being swallowed by sand or planets crumbling themselves. The survival elements make the game an interesting challenge, and players will really enjoy uncovering some intergalactic mysteries when it releases this Friday!
HammerWatch II & HammerWatch Anniversary – Dec 13
These are 2 separate titles, but you can purchase them in the Hammerwatch Chronicles Edition. The Hammerwatch series is an open-world medieval adventure where you choose to play one of several classes in a Dungeons and Dragons-style adventure. Hammerwatch Anniversary allows you to even craft your own campaign! Both titles can be enjoyed solo or played with friends in Co-op. If you like D&D, you probably shouldn’t overlook the Hammerwatch series!
There you have it! Did I miss something? Let me know so I can check it out. I’m actually relieved a little that this is a quieter month for releases so I’ll be catching up on some games I’ve missed.
Happy Gaming!
