Fortnite is leveling up in December with Rocket League, Lego, and… Rock Band?

Fortnite Season OG rekindled a spark in my love for Fortnite, and whilst I really enjoyed my time with the OG Season, I figured that when it came to an end with the Big Bang, I would probably take a break from it again. In the dark and early hours of Sunday morning here in Australia, my son and I woke at 4 am, had a cuppa, and queued so my son could experience his first live event. It was a great experience that was special for him, seeing his face light up during the event with excitement was more enjoyable than any game I’ve played recently (Spoiler Alert: I play a LOT of games.) But what I didn’t know, is that the Big Bang wasn’t just the end of Season OG, but a promising Showcase of what’s to come, and a lure for us OG players who only planned to come back for the short-lived season.

Fortnite promises to deliver new “Game Experiences” within the Fortnite Game, offering totally new adventures in the form of live service experiences. Don’t let the “Live Service” part put you off, these new games will be added to Fortnite this week, totally FREE. The first 3 new experiences are Lego Fortnite, Rocket Racing, and Fortnite Festival. So while we wait at the Battle Bus stop, let’s take a look at these new experiences.

Lego Fortnite

The first of a long-time collaboration with the Lego Company, Fortnite Lego is a survival game that encourages players to work together to survive. It’s an open-world crafting game filled with dragons, skeletons, and fun. Fortnite Lego will very likely be similar to Minecraft and is built for all ages to enjoy. Epic and Lego promise that this iteration of Fortnite Lego is “just the beginning” and will more than likely receive constant content updates. Fortnite Lego drops on December 7, so we only have a few days to wait!

Rocket Racing

Rocket Racing brings Rocket League to Fortnite, but instead of scoring goals, you will be racing against your opponents to the finish line. The game features all the Rocket League abilities such as turbo boosting through shortcuts, ramming your opponents out of the way, and flipping upside down to race above opponents. This section of the event was really great, showcasing the strong sense of speed and thrill of racing. We also don’t have to wait too long for this one to drop as Rocket Racing speeds into Fortnite on December 8!

Fortnite Festival

Co-developed by Harmonix, who brought Rock Band into the world, Forntine Festival kicks off its official first season with The Weeknd on December 9. The game will be similar to the Rock Band series, allowing players to jam along with the beat to your favorite songs. The cool thing is you can team up with your friends and rock out on stage, or play solo if you prefer. Due to the live-service nature of the game, budding musicians can expect regular updates with new songs and settings. I know a few of my friends are keen to try this one out!

Chapter 5 Commences Tomorrow!

Finally, we have Chapter 5 Going live tomorrow! Chapter 5 is called “Underground” and features trains to hijack, weapons to customise, and a new parkour-style movement system, allowing for smoother terrain traversal. The customisable weapons systems look great, allowing the player to add red dot sights, drum magazines, and foregrips to weapons to no doubt improve their stats. There are also new gadgets in the form of Ballistic Shields that will be sure to frustrate me to no end. The season also adds Peter Griffin from Family Guy, Snake from Metal Gear Solid, voiced by the legendary David Hayter himself, and some amazing new original skins. There’s also an overarching mystery of Peely being kidnapped which will be fun to see play out.

Now, I know there are so many amazing creators out there deserving of your support, but if you haven’t picked one yet, feel free to use my Support a Creator code in the Fortnite shop by entering “whatsitlike” with no spaces.

With all these new features coming to Fortnite, there’s no question of whether I’m returning to the fold. The only question we need to ask now is: Where are we dropping?
