No Man’s Sky Omega Available For Switch… RIGHT NOW!

No Man’s Sky Omega seems to have people thinking that the “Omega” title signifies the end of development. While nothing has been confirmed yet, the Omega update aims to bring the galaxy together and I think that’s a rather fitting send-off. Whether it is or not isn’t why we are here, what we are here for is unlike previous updates that lag before the other platforms, No Man’s Sky Omega is available right now for Nintendo Switch. Go ahead and download the patch while you watch the rest of the video, as we delve into the new Omega update.

Sean Murray and the team at Hello Games have taken a bold step to make the Omega Expedition free for this weekend to bring as many players together as possible. I happen to think the No Man’s Sky Community is one of the best online communities around, so I have no doubt these new players are going to feel welcome amongst the stars. The free part of this game is done through a free trial on all major platforms, including Nintendo Switch.

The next exciting feature is how expeditions can be started and completed on existing saves, allowing you to take your multitool, store tech, and do the expedition in your favorite starship. I think this is huge since I love my main save, and I have 8 or so more saves just there for Expeditions. It’s done really well and you don’t carry all of your resources and tech over, so it keeps it a balanced experience. For those wondering how it’s done, simply summon the space anomaly, and right next to the community missions area, there’s an expedition terminal. You can also leave the expedition and return to your normal save at any time.

The best time to test this out is with the new Community Expedition: Omega, which will see you fight, build, and of course, explore the galaxy with new community objectives and a diverse set of tasks. With all expeditions, there’s an underlying narrative, and while I think it might be hard to top the Autophage expedition, I’m very keen to uncover the Omega story. Players who complete the expedition will be able to unlock a very unique and limited Atlas Staff, an Atlas Jetpack, and a New helmet to match. This new set looks incredible and I’m currently going at hyperspeed to unlock it. If that wasn’t enough, there’s an incredible-looking Starborn Runner, an unusual ship that hovers above the ground (and can be used for space flight!) To complement these new features, there’s a host of quality-of-life improvements, bug fixes, and UI upgrades.

The other major changes are a completely reworked Atlas Path Campaign which now ends with a choice that will impact you for the rest of your game time. I’m embarrassed to say despite having an offensive amount of time clocked up, I have never finished the main campaign, so perhaps now it’s time to make that journey. We aren’t done with changes yet as player can now storm Pirate Freighters and confront the captain to take control of the vessel, and add it to your collection! Pirate Captains may also read the tide of battle and surrender their stolen goods in exchange for mercy. Finally, there’s a new series of planetwide missions given to the player when on the surface of a planet that varies depending on the planet’s climate, ecology, geography, and even the quest giver’s personality!

The game has already received an incredible amount of support from the HelloGames team, adding so many new mechanics and features. To me, Omega certainly seems like one of the bigger ones and I’m very excited to play these this weekend. What about you? Does the free trial appeal to you? Or are you a veteran player who might make your return with this new update? Let me know in the comments below!

With the No Man’s Sky Omega Update, many theorise it’s the end of development on this phenomenal game, but I think of it as a new beginning, ushering in a new wave of travelers, keeping veterans’ engaged, and hopefully igniting that spark in those who abandoned their adventure somewhere among the stars.
