The Future Looks Bright for Splatoon 3 Players!

Splatoon 3 Players are going to be eating well in the next few weeks as Nintendo released not one, but 2 trailers in regard to future content with the Side Order DLC being pushed forward (to next Thursday, 22nd Feb), and a fresh new season dropping March 1st. Fun fact: I’m a huge Splatoon Dork! The What’s it Like colours are inspired by my Splatoon OLED Colour layout. Admittedly, it’s been a fresh minute since I visited Inkopolis Plaza, but this new content will undoubtedly draw me back in. What’s it Like? Get some gear, grab your roller, and stay fresh as we take a look at the two new content packs splashing down in the next few weeks!

Let’s start with the Ambitious DLC that is Side Order. It takes place in an alternate Splatoon world by showing us what would have happened if Team Order defeated Team Chaos in the final Splatfest of Splatoon 2, which in itself, is an amazing kickback in my opinion. This is the second and final DLC pack arriving for Splatoon 3, the first being a smaller cosmetic DLC that allowed players to revisit the Wii U hub and set it as the default hub area when loading in. Side Order brings an entirely single-player experience that’s designed to be played over and over due to its rogue-like nature. Players will be joined by a drone version of Pearl who can be upgraded to assist you as you climb the floors of a colourless spire.  Each level will allow you to select one of 3 challenges of varying difficulty and reward you with “Colour Chips” that offer boosts and upgrades like additional splash damage on grenades.

The caveat to this though is no matter how high you go, if you are defeated or fail your objective, you are sent back down to the first floor to start all over again. You also lose all of your acquired colour chips but don’t despair, as they are cashed into a new currency that can be used for permanent upgrades, bolstering your chances for success. Your Pearl Drone can also aid you in combat, helping balance out the difficulty levels in some situations, but there’s no doubt about it, you’re in for a real challenge with the Side Order DLC.

Nintendo has remained light on some details about rewards you can carry on into the main portion of Splatoon 3, but much like Splatoon 2’s Sublime (That you FartGuy69 for correcting me on the use of subliminal) there’s sure to be a really cool treat in store for the elite Spire conquerors.

Splatoon 3

If the Spire wasn’t enough to keep you inklings glued to your Switches, a fresh new season drops shortly after Side Order on March 1st, giving players a bunch of new weapons and maps to ink, as well as a new season of gear to keep your inkling looking fresh. Inklins will be able to battle it out in turf wars at Marlin Airport, a new map somewhat reminiscent of Modern Warfare 2’s Airport map, and a new Salmon Run stage called “Bonerattle Stadium” which looks appropriately dystopian! There are also new Brella and Dualies variants, as well as much more content coming in this fresh update.

If this wasn’t enough to get you excited, there’s also a Splatfest this week on which day is your favorite out of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Personally, I’m team Sunday as it’s usually my day to chill out with my family and play some games with my wife and kids. The constant updates and support on Splatoon 3 have been really great and I think I can confidently say that due to this support, it’s ensured a longer lifespan on the series. We won’t be seeing a Splatoon 4 anytime soon!

Personally, I’m very excited to jump back into the World of Splatoon. I remember being so frustrated with the launch window server issues that I walked away from it for a while despite being a huge fan of the series. Thankfully it woo’ed me back in and I really enjoy participating in the Splatfests, as well as having some fun in Turf War and Salmon Run. I’m a roller main and it appears they get no love in this expansion, but I think Nintendo are holding their cards close to their chest on rewards so Roller mains might be in for a surprise when it does launch.
